CLUB NEWS

Hoping everyone is having a great start to the Holiday Season. We are cruising right along here at the club. We are continuing to add more equipment downstairs in the fitness area. We added a new Freemotion Dual Cable Cross machine and an Assault Bike. There will be more added when shipping dates are given to us. We hope everyone is enjoying the added space we provided by moving the six Freemotion machines from upstairs. I think it gives a better flow to the fitness area.

We will also have a fun Holiday party this month with none other than Santa Claus himself! I hope everyone can stop by for some family fun Dec, 16th. It will be focused on kids but we will also have Happy Hour drinks and free snacks for everyone. Please come check it out!

Thanks again for making OVAC such a special place in this valley. We are so thankful for each of you in making 2022 a great year. We can't wait to see what's in store for 2023!!
Enjoy this time with friends and family!

See Ya at the Club!

Ryan

VCJTA Novice/Open Tourney at OVAC

OVAC hosted a Ventura County Junior Tennis Association tournament Saturday and Sunday November 5th and 6th. Many of our Junior players from OVAC participated. It's exciting to see the kids improving and doing well at tournaments. The girls 12 Novice Division saw two of our members take home the champion and runner-up hardware. Chloe Kallison won that division with Vana Dakessian taking second. The Boys 10 & Under Novice saw OVAC's Cyrus Washburn take second place honors.

imgThe 137th annual mixed-doubles Turkey Trot was held on November 20th on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. Largely recognized as the longest running club social event in the nation, The "Trot" as it has come to be called, was started in the post-Civil War era by Ojai Valley resident Jedidiah Gaston who was the Great-Great grandfather of OVAC GM Ryan Gaston. The event has been held every year here at OVAC since 1885 save for two occasions. It was canceled in 1926 due to the death of silent film star Rudolph Valentino and again in 1961 because everyone was "really jittery" due to the Bay of Pigs invasion.

This year's incarnation saw two stellar teams emerge from round-robin play in the Giblets and Gravy divisions. Lea and David Gonzales faced Daisy Carlson and Drew Lurie in the final with the Gonzales duo prevailing. Lea and David chose the "pretty good bottle of wine" as their prize leaving the 14 lb Jennie O fresh young turkey to be claimed by Daisy and Drew. Til next year...
