I hope everyone puts in their family calendar to attend the OVAC Holiday Party December 15th. We will have music, great activities for kids and of course SANTA! This is always a great time so bring the family and enjoy the festivities!

We hope everyone has an amazing Holiday Season. Please remember that we will have limited hours on the 24th (8-12:30) and closed on the 25th. Have a great time with friends and family!

NEW PRIVATE PILATES INSTRUCTOR!

imgWe have a nice team of private Pilates instructors here. Myself, Kelsey, Taylor, and now, also, Amanda Gavlick!

She will be teaching in our studio Mondays and Fridays from 4-8:30pm and she is open to weekends as well. Please reach out so we can schedule private sessions with Amanda for you! Amanda Gavlick is a certified Pilates instructor and an outspoken enthusiast of the Pilates practice. She saw such improvement in her own posture and core strength with a regular Pilates routine, that she was inspired to become an instructor. Her exercise will help you connect with your body and enjoy laughs along the way.

IT IS THE HOLIDAYS...MASSAGE IS A NECESSITY

What better way to treat yourself and others this holiday season with a massage! It can be a stressful time because we get out of our routine a bit, and we are using more energy to socialize and gather. So have that quiet moment for no one else but you! Also, an easy gift to your friend/family. I will give out massage gift certificates for anyone that wants to show their love this way!

Please reach out to me if you would like to book a massage and if you would like a gift certificate.

HOLIDAY TRADITION WORKOUT

Making fitness part of your annual holiday traditions is a great way to stay on track with your goals through this busy season. Below is a fun idea to incorporate movement into the every day for 12 days (remember the tune "The 12 Days of Christmas"?). By moving your body you will help keep your stress levels down, focus better, and feel a sense of accomplishment. Not every workout has to be intense (in fact, walking is the most underrated exercise in my opinion) to realize significant physical and mental benefits. Plus, it's fun to try something new. So grab your family and let's go.

Just like "The 12 Days of Christmas" song, this workout will add a new exercise each day for 12 days:

  • Day 1 1 minute plank
  • Day 2 1 minute plank, 2 burpees
  • Day 3 1 minute plank, 2 burpees, 3 Push Ups
  • Day 4 1 minute plank, 2 burpees, 3 Push Ups, 4 inchworms
  • Day 5 1 minute plank, 2 burpees, 3 Push Ups, 4 inchworms, 5 lateral lunges each direction
  • Day 6 1 minute plank, 2 burpees, 3 Push Ups, 4 inchworms, 5 lateral lunges each direction, 6 side plank hip taps each side
  • Day 7 1 minute plank, 2 burpees, 3 Push Ups, 4 inchworms, 5 lateral lunges each direction, 6 side plank hip taps each side, 7 reverse lunges each leg
  • Day 8 1 minute plank, 2 burpees, 3 Push Ups, 4 inchworms, 5 lateral lunges each direction, 6 side plank hip taps each side, 7 reverse lunges each leg, 8 tricep dips
  • Day 9 1 minute plank, 2 burpees, 3 Push Ups, 4 inchworms, 5 lateral lunges each direction, 6 side plank hip taps each side, 7 reverse lunges each leg, 8 tricep dips, 9 supermans
  • Day 10 1 minute plank, 2 burpees, 3 Push Ups, 4 inchworms, 5 lateral lunges each direction, 6 side plank hip taps each side, 7 reverse lunges each leg, 8 tricep dips, 9 supermans, 10 mountain climbers each leg
  • Day 11 1 minute plank, 2 burpees, 3 Push Ups, 4 inchworms, 5 lateral lunges each direction, 6 side plank hip taps each side, 7 reverse lunges each leg, 8 tricep dips, 9 supermans, 10 mountain climbers each leg, 11 squats
  • Day 12 1 minute plank, 2 burpees, 3 Push Ups, 4 inchworms, 5 lateral lunges each direction, 6 side plank hip taps each side, 7 reverse lunges each leg, 8 tricep dips, 9 supermans, 10 mountain climbers each leg, 11
    squats, 12 jumping jacks

If you're ready to take your fitness or nutrition to the next level, OVAC's personal training staff is available with many training options for all budgets, from our online training that costs less than $50/month to small group training for as low s $30/session to premier offering of one on one individualized training for $80/session (or $60/session/person if you bring a friend). TURKEY TROT 2023

imgThe 138th annual mixed-doubles Turkey Trot was held on November 20th on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. Largely recognized as the longest running tennis-oriented Thanksgiving-themed social event in the nation, The "Trot" as it has come to be called, was started in the post-Civil War era by Ojai Valley resident Jedidiah Gaston who was the Great-Great grandfather of OVAC GM Ryan Gaston. The event has been held every year here at OVAC since 1885 save for two occasions. It was canceled in 1926 due to the death of silent film star Rudolph Valentino and again in 1961 because everyone was "really jittery" due to the Bay of Pigs invasion.

This year's incarnation saw stellar play throughout the lengthy round-robin format leaving the final outcome in question until the final round. When the dust had settled the Cosmic Cats (see photo) aka Jacqui Burge and Greg Doss emerged victorious with Jim and Susan Kasser a close second.

Jacqui and Greg chose the 14 lb Jennie-O Premium Frozen turkey but donated it to another team due to a recent vow of austerity and veganism leaving the "pretty good bottle of wine" to be claimed by Jim and Susan. 'Til next year...
