February Newsletter 2020
OVAC UPDATE
The new year gave us a few hiccups to start but now the lap pool heaters are running great and the men's sauna is back in action. Please help us out and don't add water to the dry sauna. It can lead to parts being broken and having it out of service. We are also in the waiting game for warmer weather to get pickleball complete. I do hope everyone gets a chance to visit the Cafe. We are looking to make some changes over the next month with new items and a new look.
I hope everyone has a great February here at OVAC. We will keep working hard to make it the best for our members!
See Ya at the Club!

STRENGTH TRAINING DURING PREGNANCY
By Erin Foley, Certified Personal Trainer, Certified Pre and Post Natal Exercise Coach, Certified Nutritionist (Precision Nutrition Level 1)
If you are pregnant, or are thinking of becoming pregnant, and are unsure of how to appropriately exercise during this changing time, I'd recommend considering strength training. Strength training can be easily modified as you progress through pregnancy and it helps your body handle the stress of pregnancy and delivery and during pregnancy it can help lessen back and pelvic pain. Studies have shown that strength training even leads to healthier babies, with better birth outcomes and healthy birth rates! Below is a testimonial from a client of mine who exercised throughout her whole pregnancy and felt all of these benefits.
In the words of one of OVAC's members...
"Working with Erin twice a week was essential to my pregnancy health and strength. She formulated workouts to target specific areas and avoided tender or sensitive issues while pregnant. She knew exactly how to push me without ever going too far. Thanks to Erin's knowledge and loving training regimen, I had a strong and healthy pregnancy. People would comment that I was stronger and healthier than before I was pregnant!"

Here are a few tips on effective exercises during your pregnancy:
- Ensure that your abdominal muscles and pelvic floor feel supported and that there isn't pressure outwards on your belly or downwards onto your pelvic floor.
- Ensure that it feels moderately challenging but does not feel like you are pushing your body to failure. On a scale of 1 to 10 the majority of your workouts should feel like a 6 or 7 in terms of intensity.
- Ensure that the exercise feels good on your body and doesn't cause any pain or discomfort. You know your body best and if anything feels weird/off I'd recommend modifying the exercise.
Of course, every woman is different and specific exercises and load may vary based on strength and condition prior to pregnancy. If you need a training program customized for you during this special time, I'd be happy to help. I can be reached at 701-238-7351.

QUIN SEIDER INVITED TO SCS ALL STAR FESTIVAL
Ojai Heatwave's swimmer Quin Seider was invited to attend the Southern California Swimming All Star Festival swim meet on Jan 25 at East LA College pool. Quin was selected by Southern California Swimming based on his meet performances in the past few months. The Socal All Star Swim Festival is an event where the fastest 32 swimmers across all events in the 9/10, 11/12, and 13/14 age groups in Southern California are selected and put on four different teams that compete against one another. Having a swimmer be a part of this event is very exciting for our small team and club! Congratulations Quin.
