July Newsletter 2021

OVAC NEWS

It seems as though we went from 0 to 100 in the course of a month! It's great to see members excited to get back to the club once the mask mandate was lifted. Remember, if you are vaccinated you are more than welcome to go maskless throughout the club. We are so excited to get back to normal and look forward to some fun events throughout the Summer months! Our first fun event will be hosting The Dianne Miller Band on Friday, July 9th. We will have happy hour prices for food and drinks along with entertainment for the kids.

Towels are also back at the front desk. We are limiting towels to one per person so if you want more please bring one from home. We also have the Sauna open in both locker rooms. We will continue to have the outdoor fitness area and will look to add more equipment in the downstairs area.

We are very excited to see everyone coming back to the club. We look forward to seeing each and every one of you and please drop by the front desk if you have any questions regarding the club.

See Ya at the Club!

Ryan

OVAC LIFEGUARDS

img

We are so excited to have our Lifeguard backs and our diving board open for the 2021 Summer season! The Lifeguards will be on duty with the diving board open:

● Monday-Thursday 11:30-4:30
● Friday 2:00-6:00
● Saturday & Sunday 1:00-6:00pm

Our Lifeguards take their jobs seriously and they will be enforcing pool rules and looking to prevent emergencies. Please watch your children carefully, nothing can replace adult supervision at a pool. As a reminder, children under the age of 14 must be supervised by an adult at all times. Children under 42 inches tall must wear a safety vest(puddle jumper) OR be within arms reach of an adult in the pool.

When lifeguards are on duty, bathroom breaks for children under 14 will occur every hour on the 50 minute until the top of the hour. It's important for children to take a break, have a snack and use the bathroom during that time. Thank you so much for helping keep our pool safe!

SUMMER GROUP LESSONS

MORE PRIVATE SESSION OFFERINGS

img

Georgia Cotsis, Pilates Director

I am enthused to announce that starting this month, July 14th, we will not only continue to offer private Pilates with the equipment, but now adding private Pilates on the MAT! This will be in the indoor studio. The brochures are with me, Georgia Cotsis, Pilates Director, at the outdoor studio along with the pricing for the equipment if you do not know those package offerings already.

I am excited to embark on a journey of showing our members what it is like to feel the challenges of exercising with one's own body, no other assistance. We are in full control of how our body moves and thinks!!

Please contact me if you have any questions about what working on the Mat is like, or sign up for a free session across from the front desk! (Please clarify next to your name if you are interested in Mat training, or Equipment training).

INSULIN RESISTANCE + EXERCISE

img

By Danielle Wommack

Insulin resistance is the condition of having chronically elevated levels of insulin. Insulin is the hormone that stimulates cells to take up glucose. 1 in 2 people suffer from insulin resistance. Untreated, insulin resistance can progress to type 2 diabetes. The problem with insulin resistance is not the insulin itself, but rather our cells' reduced ability to respond to insulin. This leads to a compensatory increase in insulin. High insulin is a driver of inflammation. One clue to insulin resistance in abdominal weight gain. However, moving your body is the single best way to improve insulin sensitivity.

Movement helps to improve glucose uptake into cells during exercise and helps by building muscle to improve insulin sensitivity even when you are at rest. If you would like to get started moving your body, I would love to help. Here at OVAC we have so many personal training options to help, including the following:

  • One on One $75/hour with a minimum purchase of 5 (½ hours available for ½ price)
  • Small Group $30/session (discount available if you sign up for 4 weeks)
  • Semi-Private (groups of two) $60/hour/person with a minimum purchase of 5 (½ hours available for ½ price)
  • Digital training (workouts delivered electronically and self-led) $49/month (cancel at any time)

Let us help you develop a plan to fight insulin resistance by explaining the various options in more detail. Feel free to reach out to me at [email protected] to find the perfect fit for you.
