It's Summer time at OVAC and we have some great events lined up! From Cornhole Tournaments to Beer Tastings, we will make sure you are having a good time at the club! We will also be hosting the National High School Tennis Championships in July. We also have great swim and tennis camps starting up this month! It's a great way to get introduced to amazing sports.

This program is a great intro for kids interested in the game. We will cover the basics while having fun playing different types of games geared towards their tennis future.

INTERMEDIATE AND ADVANCED
Time: 9am-12pm, Cost: $150 Members, $175 non-Members
This program covers many different levels. We divide the players according to their skills and ability. The program will push players with intense drills while also having fun with games and competition. Tennis from 9:00-11:30am, swim from 11:30am-12 Noon.

ME TOO CHRONICLES

I saw you walk around that day membership gave you a tour of OVAC with a dazed look in your eyes feeling awkward and a bit out of place in street clothes. I could tell you felt like you stood out as the “newbie”. You clearly felt uncomfortable wondering if everyone could tell that you were out of shape and desperate for a change? I tried to smile at you to let you know it was going to be ok. Really. I wanted you to know that every one of us felt afraid and confused by all the machines and equipment at first. I wanted to interrupt the tour to make sure you knew none of us knew where to start when we first joined. I distinctly remember dreading undressing in the locker room where everyone could see the effect of having three kids had on my body. I was ashamed of my body. I didn’t even own fitness clothes when I first joined and worked out in my husband’s work t-shirt and cut off sweat pants.
You didn’t run away though. You decided that the time to change is NOW. You signed on the dotted line and you became an official Ojai Valley Athletic Club member. I was so excited for you because I knew the opportunities that awaited you. I could see you relaxed slightly when you consistently received a warm greeting from the front desk. You started to notice that not everyone here looks ready for the Cross Fit Games – you are surrounded by men and women of all ages and fitness levels gathering to create a more healthy lifestyle without egos.
Then you remembered those complimentary personal training sessions. You took a deep breath and reached out to me to get started. I was overjoyed! I knew it was hard, hard to trust, hard to make yourself vulnerable, especially if you had been injured in the past or never reached your goals. What if it doesn’t work again this time? Then what? I understand because these are the same feelings I experienced when I became a member. I understand that you don’t want to be judged, you want to be empowered. You want support and changes that are actually doable. You want to look and feel awesome again. And you want to learn to do it independently without breaking the bank.

What Does It Cost? Two payments of $198.50 for members non-refundable (billed in July and in August). $476 non-refundable pre-pay for non-members. Note that non-members will enjoy complete gym access during open gym hours during the 8-week transformation to complete your solo strength training workouts.

5 CORE SKILLS FOR EFFECTIVE WEIGHT LOSS
1. Eat 3 to 4 times a day without snacking.
2. Actually feel hungry before you eat, then wait another 30-60 minutes.
3. Eat mostly whole foods.
4. Practice portion control.
5. Eat until 80% full.
WHAT’S NEW IN GROUP FITNESS
*Aquarobics with Mari Allen now Saturdays at 9am too for the Summer Schedule. Safely challenge your balance, strength & flexibility while improving your endurance and energy levels. Intermediate.
*Ignite the Fire with Belinda Hill Fridays at 7am. Ignite your inner strength with a core, cardio and yoga fusion practice. Intermediate.
*Ball Strength with Trudie Town Thursdays at 7pm. Strengthen, tone and stretch your entire body with stability balls and free weights, while challenging your core. Advanced.
*Sunday Yoga at 9:30am with Etienne Emmanuel starts June 18th.
Children enjoy an afternoon as mermaids! Activities include treasure hunt, underwater photos, games, snack, music, and short choreography swim routine and more!

SUMMER POOL SAFETY
The diving board will be open on weekends starting Memorial Day weekend 12pm-6pm and seven days a week starting on June 18. Lifeguards will be on duty, please use caution while using the diving board and follow pool rules. We want everyone to have a fun and SAFE summer!
LEARN TO SWIM AT OVAC
PARENT & CHILD-Water Introduction (ages 1-3)
Fun water introduction and acclimation to group lessons, swimmers learn water safety, comfort, and awareness with games songs and play.
TADPOLES LEVEL 1- Water Skills and Safety (ages 3-5)
Preschool age beginners start breath holding and blowing bubbles while gaining arm stroke and kicking. Emphasizes water safety while having fun and gaining confidence
MINNOWS LEVEL 2-Fundamental Aquatic Skills (ages 4-6)
Focus on front and back glide, breathing, freestyle, backstroke. Swimmers gain endurance and stroke skills.
SHARK LEVEL 3- Stroke Introduction (ages 5-9)
Swimmers learn improved stroke mechanics and efficiency swimming longer distances, diving and swimming in deep water.

You are perfect examples of what Pilates can do for one’s life, at any age.
