March Newsletter 2022

We are cruising right along into Spring...(I think we had a Winter?)...and very excited about all the things happening here at OVAC. We have lifted the mask mandate and that allows us to start having more social events as the weather gets warmer. We are also preparing for The Ojai Tennis Tournament in April. We will host the PAC-12 Women's Conference Championships here at the club. It will be an amazing opportunity to watch some of the best women tennis players in the country.

As the County has dropped the mask requirement, we look to get back to normal as much as possible. We will still have the outdoor fitness area open for the long term with no plans to change it. We will also keep with the Zoom option for group fitness for the short term. We might move some equipment back downstairs from the tennis area but will hold off for a bit before we make any changes.

We really hope everyone will be visiting the club often this month. It's so great to see everyone's happy faces again!!

See Ya at the Club!!

Ryan

A SPECIAL MESSAGE FROM ROBERT EVANS

Greetings to everyone at OVAC. I know it's been awhile since I've been battling cancer. The good news is my latest tests show no visible signs of cancer. I'm currently going through physical therapy and swallowing therapy treatments. I just wanted to take a moment and thank you all for your prayers and support for me and my wife. We could not have done this without you. I'm looking forward to seeing and hopefully working with you soon.

MARCH FITNESS TIP: HOW TO GET YOUR 10K STEPS IN A HOUR

-Danielle Wommack, Fitness Director

Ten thousand steps is the equivalent of approximately 5 miles (8km), which equates to an hour and forty minutes walking (depending on your stride length and walking speed. But what if you're short on time? Remember this tip to cut that time to under an hour – 10 minutes of high intensity activity = 2,000 steps. OVAC's triple diamond rated classes (see our online Group Fitness Schedule at https://cacovac.clubautomation.com/calendar/classes?tab=by-class) are a great way to get those steps in under an hour, as well as the affordable small group personal training classes (less than $30 a session). Other ideas include: circuit training style workouts, brisk rowing, fast cycling, running, and playing competitive sports. For more information on how to get your 10K steps in each day, please feel free to reach out to me at [email protected].

THE POWER OF CHANGE

-Georgia Cotsis Pilates Director [email protected] (805)272-5619

"Change happens through movement and movement heals."

I will never forget how much Pilates changed my life and I have been doing Pilates consistently for 6 years now. I lost 25 pounds, became stronger because I was too flexible before, improved my alignment, and made me much more confident. It was an exciting experience to realize how much just moving your body can help us feel happier and healthier mentally and physically. Of course ALL movement gives us this positivity in our lives, but this is how Pilates makes it even better.

"Change" is the same thing as "reform." There is a reason one of the pieces of equipment is called a "Reformer." This piece of equipment helps us to align ourselves more correctly and helps us to find our full range of motion. So after one session, we already become more aware of how to do things correctly and more aware of our current standing in strength and mobility. The reason the Reformer shows us this, is because it gives the client straps to hold onto and there are springs underneath so that there is just enough resistance to GUIDE the body into position - meaning it is encouraging the client to not rely on the equipment; it is to enhance the movement. Please see how the Reformer, Cadillac, Chair, and the Mat can heal your body if you have not already.

LOMI LOMI MASSAGE

-Georgia Cotsis Massage Therapist [email protected] (805)272-5619

I wanted to share what Lomi Lomi Massage entails and why it is a great modality to try out. Most spas do not offer Lomi Lomi so it is great we have this at the Club!

Lomi Lomi is a stress reducing massage, which carries you away with wavelike movements. It has longer circular and sweeping strokes done with forearms, fingers, knuckles, and palms of the hands. Since it contains longer strokes, the mind becomes very relaxed because the mind is not focusing on one muscle or muscle group at a time. The therapist sways the client's body as well so that the muscles can release in a different way.

I love that the wide lengths of this massage harmonizes the body, mind, and spirit. Please book your 50 or 30 minute Lomi Lomi Massage ASAP.
